In the final part of this series, John Holland looks at a case study that reflects the issues that he and his co-authors have discussed in parts one to three. RAPID-UK received a call during the early hours of December 26, providing information on an earthquake in Iran. An information search was started to help assess the logistics required to despatch a team to the disaster area, should this be required. This four-part series has given an insight into the requirements of a good search and rescue team. Using the Iranian earthquake as an example shows an effective response, even though there were still problematic areas to overcome. Accredited teams that are well-trained, well equipped and well-rehearsed are the way forward to ensure a timely and warranted response.
